Predict where clamp pressure will pull parts before glue-up.

Look for: Where might the parts shift when pressure is added?

What you need

  • Two to four scrap parts
  • Clamps
  • Square
  • Pencil arrows

Try it

  1. Dry-fit the parts.
  2. Draw arrows where pressure will push or pull.
  3. Clamp lightly.
  4. Check whether the actual movement matched the arrows.
Look closely

What changed?

Clamps can move pieces sideways, not just hold them still.

Make it easier

Use two straight boards only.
