What you need

  • Scrap board
  • 80, 120, 180, and 220 grit abrasive
  • Pencil
  • Dust brush

Try it

  1. Divide the board into four labeled zones.
  2. Sand each zone with its matching grit.
  3. Brush off dust.
  4. Compare scratches with side light and fingertips.

What changed?

Skipping grits can leave deeper scratches behind.

Make it easier

Use only 120 and 220 grit.
