What you need

  • Scrap board
  • Pencil
  • Combination square or try square
  • Eraser

Try it

  1. Mark three square lines from the same edge.
  2. Label them A, B, and C.
  3. Check each line again from the reference edge.
  4. Circle the best line and explain why it wins.

What changed?

Tiny pencil-angle changes can make layout lines disagree.

Make it easier

Use a wide board and a bold pencil line.

Try another way

Add a ruler measurement and ask the builder to hit the same mark twice.
