What you need
- One identified, prepared solid-wood board
- Pencil marks at two width-check locations
- A real ruler and dated record card
What to do
- Ask an adult to identify the face, end, length, and width of the board.
- Mark two width-check locations and record the date and readings.
- Keep the board in an agreed location and repeat the readings later.
- Compare the dated results. If no change is visible, record that too.
What should you look for?
Did the width reading change? Check the same locations and units before comparing.
How could this help your build?
You can ask whether a wide panel in a project needs room for seasonal movement.
